PDH networks tend to follow either the European E1, E2,
E3, ... format or the North American T1, T2, T3, ... format.
Typically devices making use of PDH devices need to be assessed
against the relevant regulatory requirements for EMC, Radio
and Safety. In some markets Telecoms Performance also has
to be assessed to obtain regulatory certification.
Global Approvals
For Safety, there are well-established routes to obtain
the necessary certification to demonstrate compliance
for most markets. The CB Scheme offers one such route
and covers all the major markets around the world.
For EMC, Radio and Telecoms performance the TRaC Approvals
Group can offer a completely managed service.
Testing Services
Regulatory Testing
Most devices with PDH interfaces will be IT or datacoms
equipment. As such this will define the applicable EMC
standards. If applicable, Telecoms regulation is often
based on the generic ITU-T standards for PDH devices.
As an example, the table below lists the necessary regulatory
requirements for Europe and the US.

Conformance Testing
In addition to regulatory requirements, the conformance
testing provides confidence that the product is operating
as intended and adds value to prospective customers.
Below are listed example conformance standards for European
and US markets for PDH devices:
